ABOUT

ME

Amy Bukarau is a dancer, choreographer, and educator based in Kailua, Hawaii.  Amy received her Masters in Fine Arts in choreography and performance from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2018 and her Bachelors of Arts in Dance from Brigham Young University in 2013. Before coming to Hawaii Amy was a ballroom dance competitor based in Utah and toured for 5 years with the BYU Ballroom Dance Company all over the United States, Europe, and South-East Asia. As an undergraduate student she taught ballroom dance for BYU and was a member of a student-led modern dance company DancEnsemble where she choreographed and performed under the direction of Graham Brown. Upon graduating from BYU Amy served as artistic director of the ballroom dance company at Orem High school and enjoyed teaching and choreographing at the high school level.

 

As a graduate assistant at the University of Hawaii, Amy taught  modern, ballet, and ballroom dance courses, as well as classes in improvisation and advanced modern technique. Since living in Hawaii, Amy has taught dance in the high school, elementary school, and studio classrooms. She currently teaches for Kailua Dance Academy. Amy has presented works at the American College Dance Festival Association, University of Hawaii at Manoa, University of Alaska Anchorage, Small Plates Dance Festival, Mid-Pacific Institute, and Convergence Dance Theatre. Currently Amy is a member of the Convergence Dance Theatre and serves as both a choreographer and performer for the company.
